The world feels like it's burning.
I know you feel it too. The constant barrage of news that makes your stomach drop. The overwhelming sense that things are spiraling out of control. The paralysis that comes from watching events unfold that you're powerless to stop.
It's too easy to stay in the doom loop. And too hard to break out.
Constant scrolling. Refreshing. Reading one more article. Watching one more video. As if staying informed will somehow give you power over what's happening.
But all it does is make you feel more helpless.
And here's what I've learned after years of building businesses and navigating personal chaos:
The hardest lesson (in life and business) is learning to accept what you cannot control while taking radical ownership of what you can.
This isn't just about global events.
This is also about your business feeling out of control.
It's about lying awake at 3 AM, wondering where your next client will come from.
It's about feeling like you're at the mercy of forces you can't predict or influence.
It's about being really REALLY F*CKING good at what you do while feeling completely powerless over whether anyone will hire you to do it.
Today, I want to talk about the dichotomy that changes everything: accepting what you cannot control while taking RADICAL ownership of what you can.
And I want to share what I'm choosing to do with the control I have.
What We Can't Control (And Why That Matters)
Let's start with the brutal reality check.
You can't control:
The global chaos unfolding around you
Whether referrals come through
The economy, the algorithm, who sees your content
Other people's decisions about working with you
What's happening in your country or the world
Whether that prospect responds to your email
How long this current project will last
When the next opportunity will appear
You just can't.
And here's the cost of fighting that reality:
Doom scrolling gives you the illusion of staying informed, but it actually just makes you feel more powerless. You're consuming information you can do absolutely FREAKING NOTHING about, which trains your nervous system to feel helpless.
Obsessing over referrals that may never come creates anxiety without action. You're hoping someone will think of you, recommend you, save you.
But that just keeps you in waiting mode instead of CEO mode.
Trying to control the uncontrollable is exhausting. It drains the exact energy you need to change what you actually CAN control.
The brutal truth: When you stay focused on what you can't control, you rob yourself of the energy needed to change what you can.
I see this with my clients all the time.
They're stuck in this anxious loop of checking LinkedIn, hoping for a message.
Refreshing their email, hoping for a referral.
Watching other consultants succeed and wondering when it'll be their turn.
All that energy, that precious, finite energy, is going toward things they cannot control.
And it's keeping them stuck.
What You CAN Control
When the world feels overwhelming, when your business feels out of control, here's what I've learned:
You don't start by trying to move the boulder. You start by proving to yourself that you can move at all.
The Personal Foundation
Sometimes taking control starts with the tiniest decisions:
Not "lose 50 pounds" but "walk for 5 minutes today"
Not "completely overhaul my diet" but "drink water instead of scrolling with coffee"
Not "fix my sleep schedule" but "turn off my phone 10 minutes earlier tonight"
These aren't trivial. These aren't "self-care fluff."
Every small act of control teaches your nervous system something different: "Oh. I CAN choose. I DO have agency. Movement is possible."
One 5-minute walk doesn't transform your health. But it proves movement is possible.
One outreach message doesn't fill your pipeline. But it proves you can take action instead of waiting for referrals.
One small win doesn't rebuild your confidence. But it starts to shift your identity from "person who feels stuck" to "person who takes action."
Why This Identity Shift Changes Everything
I’ve learned a shocking truth in my 8 years of entrepreneurship and coaching, mentoring, and consulting 1000+ entrepreneurs.
You can have the best business strategy in the world, but if you don't have the internal capacity to execute consistently, the strategy doesn't matter.
When you're paralyzed by overwhelm, whether that's global chaos or business anxiety, you can't execute even the simplest strategy.
But when you start proving to yourself, through small daily actions, that you DO have agency? That you CAN move? That you ARE capable of change?
The Business Transformation (Where This Gets Real)
The same principle that works with your 5-minute walk works with your business.
From Personal Agency to Business Control
You don't need to:
Completely rebuild your positioning overnight
Launch a massive marketing campaign
Overhaul your entire business model in one weekend
That's not control. That's chaos disguised as productivity.
Real business control starts small. And it starts with the areas that feel most out of control right now.
The 5 Elements an Essentialist CEO Controls
Stop sounding like everyone else. Get crystal clear on the ONE transformation you deliver and exactly who needs it.
What this looks like: Going from "I help businesses with operations" to "I help 7-figure service businesses eliminate the chaos keeping founders working 60-hour weeks."
Attract Ideal Clients:
Stop waiting for referrals. Systematically reach out to your ideal clients and start conversations instead of hoping they find you.
What this looks like: 5 messages per week to CEOs who fit your ideal client profile—not pitching, but starting relationships.
Repeatably Deliver Client Results:
Stop custom-building everything. Create repeatable frameworks and templates that get better with each use instead of starting from scratch every time.
What this looks like: Turning your best client work into a methodology that can be applied systematically instead of reinventing the wheel.
Engineer CEO Freedom:
Stop keeping everything in your head. Document your processes and build infrastructure that works whether you're having a good day or a rough one.
What this looks like: A client onboarding process that runs itself and project management that keeps everything visible.
Become an Unshakable CEO:
Stop trying to fix everything at once. Choose your ONE essential next step and say no to distractions disguised as opportunities.
What this looks like: Three months focused only on positioning before touching anything else—then watching leads increase 300%.
The Essentialist CEO Transformation Catalyst.
Every client who transforms their business follows this pattern:
They start with identity: Proving to themselves they have agency through small daily actions
They choose ONE control point: Instead of trying to fix everything at once
They build systematically: Small improvements that compound over time
They move to the next control point: Only after the first one is working
This isn't about working harder. It's about rebuilding your relationship with control itself and going from victim of circumstances to the CEO of outcomes.
What I'm Choosing to Control (The Commitment)
The world feels overwhelming. My country feels like it's spiraling. My heart breaks constantly.
Every morning, I wake up to news that makes me want to crawl back under the covers. Every scroll brings fresh horror. Every headline reminds me how little power I have to stop what's happening.
I could spend all my time doom scrolling, feeling helpless. I could stay paralyzed, overwhelmed, powerless.
But that doesn't help anyone. And it sure as hell doesn't help me.
So here's what I'm choosing to control:
Starting in October, I'm committing 2% of my revenue to charitable causes:
1% to international human rights organizations working to end mass atrocities and genocide
1% to domestic organizations fighting for women's rights and civil rights
I can't single-handedly stop what's happening in Gaza, in Sudan, in my own country. But I can contribute resources to organizations that ARE fighting these battles.
It's not everything. It's not enough. But it's something.
And something is infinitely more powerful than helpless scrolling.
For every client I sign, every dollar I earn, a portion will go directly to causes that matter. My business growth becomes fuel for change. My work gets channeled into supporting people fighting for what I believe in.
This is me taking the smallest action I can take right now. Not because I'm a hero. But because I refused to stay paralyzed.
(Note: I’ll be spending some time over the coming weeks researching and selecting the organizations that I’ll be giving to for October. If you have any to suggest that are aligned with my goals, let me know)
Your Invitation to Choose

Maybe it's taking a 5-minute walk instead of doom scrolling.
Maybe it's sending ONE outreach message today instead of waiting for referrals.
Maybe it's clarifying ONE sentence of your positioning instead of drowning in strategy overwhelm.
