The Essentialist CEO is brought to you by: MagicPost.in

Confession: I've been secretly planning my LinkedIn content with MagicPost for months.

Here's why I'm obsessed. Most LinkedIn AI tools give you generic ChatGPT slop that screams, "I didn't write this."

MagicPost actually learns YOUR voice. It repurposes your content (YouTube videos, newsletters, whatever) into posts that sound like you.

The game-changer for me? The inspiration library with 500k+ posts. When I'm stuck, I find what's working in my niche and adapt it.

I'm not spending hours staring at a blank screen anymore. I'm planning content in batches, staying consistent, and my engagement is actually up.

Why Staying Busy Keeps You Broke (And What You're Really Avoiding)

I just got off a sales call with someone who fully admitted that he was at a breaking point, desperate for change, and ready to do whatever it takes.

He's running five different business models. None of them is really working.

We spent a bunch of time mapping out the clear path forward: Pick one. Get your positioning dialed in. Validate the offer with quick revenue. Build from there. Let it compound.

I even went back and forth via email, recording a loom video to go deeper into his questions.

But ultimately, he decided he needed to add another business model into the mix (one that IMHO, given what it takes to succeed, is BY FAR the least likely to work given where he is and what he’s working with).

I HATE this part of my work.

I saw the signs almost immediately and knew I should have stopped the back and forth, but I couldn’t help myself.

I liked the guy. He’s smart, good at what he does, and making a real impact in the world. I KNOW I could really help him.

But he’s not ready. And if he’s like 90% of the people I’ve seen who are similar, he probably never will be.

I see this pattern constantly. Someone comes to me scattered across multiple offers, multiple channels, multiple business models. Everything feels like it's on fire. Nothing is working.

I show them the path: Get clear. Get focused. Pick one direction and go deep.

And they can't do it.

Not because they don't understand the strategy. They do. They KNOW they're scattered. They KNOW it's not working.

They can't do it because slowing down to get focused feels dangerous. So dangerous that they can rarely recognize their resistance, coming up with excuses instead.

It’s now an old story for me, but it breaks my heart every single freaking time.

The Real Problem Beneath The Problem

Here's what I've learned, both from working with hundreds of entrepreneurs and from my own painful experience:

We're not scattered because we don't know better. We're scattered because being busy protects us from something scarier.

When you're running five business models, posting on six platforms, trying twelve different lead gen strategies, you can always blame the system when it doesn't work.

  • "I just need to find the RIGHT channel."

  • "I just need the RIGHT lead magnet."

  • "I just need to try ONE more thing."

The failure is about the tactics, not about you.

But when you get clear and focused? When you pick ONE positioning, ONE offer, ONE set of channels?

If it doesn't work immediately, it feels like the market is rejecting YOU.

Not your strategy. Not your execution. YOU.

Your expertise. Your differentiation. Your value as a human.

So we stay scattered as protection.

We keep all the options open, all the business models running, all the channels active.

Or we give focus a try, but when it doesn’t work IMMEDIATELY, we go right back to scattered.

That way, we can tell ourselves, "I just haven't found the right combination yet" instead of facing the terrifying possibility that we claimed something specific and clear, and the market said, "No thanks."

Understand Exactly How to Make More Money from your LinkedIn Profile

That's what we do in Toast & Roast - my new content series where I diagnose real entrepreneurs’ LinkedIn profiles, toast what’s brilliant, roast what’s sabotaging them, and tell them exactly what to change to make more money in their business.

Because after working with 1000+ entrepreneurs, if it’s an issue on LinkedIn, it’s probably an issue in the rest of your business too.

What Scattered Tactics Actually Cost You

Let me be blunt about what this protection is costing you:

First: You stay broke.

When you're scattered, the market CAN'T say yes even if they want to.

→ They don't know what you do.
→ They don't know who you're for.
→ They can't refer you because they can't explain you.

You think you're keeping your options open. Really, you're making it impossible to win.

Second: You destroy your nervous system.

My therapist once told me I'm more of a human doing than a human being. And he's right.

We live in a world that taught us our worth equals our productivity. So when business isn't working, we do what we've been trained to do: MORE.

→ More content.
→ More channels.
→ More networking.
→ More lead magnets.
→ More business models.

Because slowing down feels like giving up. Getting focused feels like we're not trying hard enough. Doing less feels like failure.

But your body knows the truth. Your body knows you're running in circles. Your body knows you're using "hustle" as armor against vulnerability.

And it breaks you down. Chronic stress. Health issues. Burnout that no amount of self-care can fix because you won't address the root cause.

Third: You waste years.

I see the entrepreneurs who can't let go of being scattered. Even the ones who start working with me, who KNOW they need to focus, who are paying me to help them get clear.

Remember when we talked about my friend Amanda? She has been complaining about this stuff to me for 3 years now, and the only thing that’s changed is her stress level and health struggles…and they’ve gotten worse.

I was like this too, for a LONG time. I struggled to make any meaningful progress because I couldn’t stop adding. Couldn’t stop pivoting. Couldn’t commit to one direction long enough to see if it works.

We do this not because we're lazy or uncommitted. But because focusing feels too vulnerable.

So we stay stuck. Busy and broke. Exhausted and going nowhere.

The Truth About Vulnerability

Here's what took me years to understand:

Getting focused isn't MORE vulnerable than staying scattered. It's LESS vulnerable.

When you're scattered, you're vulnerable to EVERYTHING.

Every new strategy feels like it might be the answer. Every guru's advice feels urgent. Every shiny object looks like salvation. You have no filter, no framework, no way to evaluate what's actually right for YOU.

You're exposed on all sides. Reactive. Anxious. Constantly second-guessing.

But when you're focused?

→ You know who you are.
→ You know what you stand for.
→ You know who you serve and why you're uniquely positioned to serve them.

And when something doesn't work? You iterate from a place of clarity instead of scrambling to try a completely different thing, yet again.

You can ask: "Is my positioning off? Is my messaging unclear? Am I talking to the wrong people? Do I need to adjust my offer?"

Instead of: "Maybe I should blow everything up and try a completely different business model."

What Changed For Me (And What Can Change For You)

I remember exactly when I finally got this.

I'd been trying to serve everyone. Entrepreneurs at every stage. Every type of business. If you had a problem I could solve, I'd work with you.

I was BUSY. I was HUSTLING. I was doing ALL THE THINGS.

And I was broke. And exhausted. And my body was falling apart.

The moment I got specific, things finally began to change.

Not because the market suddenly decided I was valuable, but because the market could finally SEE me.

→ They could understand what I did.
→ They could recognize themselves in my positioning.
→ They could refer me because they could explain what I did.

And I could stop being busy and start being effective.

Same person. Same expertise. Different level of clarity.

The guy from my sales call? He's going to keep running his five (now six) business models. He's going to stay broke. And he's going to tell himself it's because he hasn't found the right combination yet.

But the truth is simpler and harder:

He's terrified to claim something specific and risk being wrong.

So he'll stay scattered and safe and stuck.

Your Choice

You have the same choice he has. The same choice I had.

You can keep being busy. Keep trying more channels, more strategies, more business models. Keep telling yourself you just need to find the right combination.

It will feel productive. It will look like hustle. It will protect you from the vulnerability of claiming something specific.

And it will keep you broke.

Or you can do the scarier, braver thing:

Get clear. Get focused. Pick one direction and commit to it long enough to see if it works.

Not forever. Not "this is my identity for the rest of my life."

Just long enough to actually test it. Long enough to let it compound. Long enough to see what's possible when you stop spreading yourself across ten things and go deep on three.

Your worth isn't measured by how much you do.

And slowing down to get clear isn't giving up.

It's the only thing that actually works.

Next week, I'm going to show you exactly what those three focused channels look like and how to make them work for YOUR business.

But first, you have to be willing to stop protecting yourself with scattered activity.

You have to be willing to get focused even though it feels vulnerable.

You have to be willing to claim who you are and what you stand for, even if the market doesn't immediately validate it.

That's the work. That's always been the work.

Everything else is just noise.

In love and growth,
Kasey
