Last Wednesday, I hosted a workshop on your fastest path to consistent $10K+ months. We walked through my Essentialist CEO Compass Assessment β rating yourself red, yellow, or green across five business elements.
Something happened that stopped me cold.
Multiple people claimed they were "green" in 3-4 out of 5 areas.
Here's the mathematical reality: If you were truly green in even 2-3 of these elements, you wouldn't be on a webinar about how to hit $10K months. You'd already be there.
This moment revealed why smart consultants stay stuck: You can't fix what you can't see. And you can't see what you're not willing to admit.
The Self-Deception That Masquerades as Self-Awareness
Here's what I've learned after working with hundreds of entrepreneurs: We lie to ourselves about our businesses in the exact same ways we lie to ourselves about everything else.
We tell ourselves we're "good at sales" when our close rate is 15%.
We tell ourselves we have "strong positioning" when prospects constantly ask us to explain what we do.
We tell ourselves we're "charging appropriately" when we're working 60-hour weeks to make what someone with our experience should make in 20.
Why do we do this? Because admitting we're "red" in an area feels like admitting we're incompetent.
Why Consultant A Broke Free (And B Stayed Trapped)
Think about Consultant B from Thursday's story. She made the same desperate phone call to her friend four times over 18 months. Each time, she promised "this time I'll do things differently."
But she never did. Because she never accurately diagnosed what was actually broken.
Consultant A understood something B never figured out: The most CEO thing you can do is get an outside perspective on your business.
Consultant A didn't invest in coaching because she thought she was incompetent. She invested because she knew she was too close to her own business to see it clearly.
Consultant B stayed trapped in the identity of the "self-reliant entrepreneur." She thought asking for help was a weakness, or she didnβt have time, or she couldnβt afford it.
The brutal irony? Consultant B worked (WAY) harder than A. She just worked on the wrong things.
The Truth That Will Set You Free
Red doesn't mean you're broken. It means you're ready to grow.
Let me be brutally honest with you: I built my previous business, Solo CEO, to consistent $30-50K months and stayed there for 8 months. And I wasn't green in all five elements. Not even close.
My positioning and offer design? Green.
My pipeline and sales? Yellow.
My client delivery? Orange.
My back-end operations? Red.
My mindset? Lime Green.
You don't need to be green in everything to see massive results. You need to systematically move from red to yellow to green in the areas that matter most for YOUR specific situation. The magic happens in the compound effect of small improvements.
The Identity That Keeps You Broke
Most consultants measure effort instead of results:
"I post on LinkedIn every day" becomes "I have a strong pipeline."
"I work with anyone who will pay me" becomes "I have good positioning."
"I always deliver more than promised" becomes "I have profitable operations."
But LinkedIn posts without leads aren't a pipelineβthey're busy work. Working with anyone who pays isn't positioningβit's desperation. Delivering more than promised isn't profitable operationsβit's scope creep destroying your margins.
The identity that made you a great employee is keeping you broke as an entrepreneur.
The Mirror Moment That Changes Everything
I want you to try something right now. It's going to be uncomfortable, but it might be the most important thing you do for your business this year.
Look at your business honestly. Not through the lens of how hard you're working or how much you care, but through the lens of results.
If you were making consistent life-changing revenue, would you be reading a newsletter about business growth?
If your positioning was truly dialed in, would prospects be confused about what you do?
If your sales process was working, would you be stressing about how to find new clients?
The answers to these questions reveal where you really are. Not where you want to be, not where you think you should be, but where you actually are.
And that's the only place real change can begin.
What Honest Assessment Reveal
At this point, Iβve coached, consulted, mentored, or trained 100s of entrepreneurs. 1000s if you include my work with tech founders. And these are the patterns Iβve seen over and over again β among consultants, coaches, agency owners, tech founders, you name it.
Most consultants are red in positioning (they sound like everyone else in their industry and have unclear offers)
Most consultants are yellow in pipeline (they get some leads but it's inconsistent and exhausting)
Most consultants are yellow in delivery (they get results but it's not scalable or measurable)
Most consultants are red in operations (they are drowning in manual tasks and doing everything themselves)
Most consultants are red in mindset (they have dysfunctional relationships with money and constantly second-guess themselves)
If this describes you, congratulations. You're normal. You're human. And most importantly, you're ready for real change.
There's one more pattern I've noticed between Consultant A and Consultant B types:
Consultant A invests in an external perspective. Consultant B tries to figure it out alone.
This isn't about money. This is about identity.
People who invest in guidance β whether it's coaching, community, or mentorship β operate from an abundance mindset. They believe in their capacity to grow, to change, to get better results.
People who refuse to invest operate from a scarcity mindset. They believe they can't afford help, that they should be able to figure it out themselves, that investing in their business is somehow frivolous.
But here's the truth: Every successful entrepreneur I know invested in an external perspective at multiple stages of their journey.
Not because they were incompetent, but because they were smart enough to know that breakthrough requires outside input.
The entrepreneurs who stay stuck are the ones who think they can solve problems they can't even see clearly.
Your Choice: A or B?
Right now, you have the same choice that both consultants faced 18 months ago.
You can be Consultant B:
Keep telling yourself that you just need to work harder, post more content, network more aggressively.
Keep believing that the problem is externalβmarket conditions, competition, your industry.
Keep inflating your self-assessment because admitting gaps feels too vulnerable.
Or you can be Consultant A:
Get honest about where you actually are, not where you wish you were.
Invest in external perspective that can see what you can't.
Join a community that rewards honesty over ego and results over effort.
The entrepreneurs who transform their businesses aren't the ones who have it all figured out. They're the ones brave enough to admit they don't.
The Collective: Where Honest Assessment Meets Strategic Action
In 15 hours, the doors close on the Essentialist CEO Collective founding member offer.
This isn't just a business program. It's a community designed specifically for entrepreneurs who are ready to get honest about their gaps and take strategic action to close them.
The Essentialist CEO Compass Assessment is just the beginning. It's the tool that reveals where you actually are versus where you think you are.
But the real transformation happens in community. When you're surrounded by people who are committed to truth over comfort, results over ego, and growth over stagnation.
If you're ready to stop being Consultant B and start becoming Consultant A, this is your moment.
Not because you'll learn some secret strategy no one else teaches.
But because you'll finally get the external perspective and community support needed to see your business clearly and take the right action to transform it.
Your business is waiting for you to get honest about it.
The question is: Are you ready?
In love and growth,
Kasey
P.S. The most successful participants in Wednesday's workshop were the ones who admitted they were "red" in multiple areas. Not because they were behind, but because they were brave enough to see clearly. That clarity? That's where real change begins.
P.P.S. If you have ANY questions about the Collective and if itβs right for you, your goals, your business, just hit reply and ask. Iβll happily help you figure it out.
